This sermon was originally written for and presented to the Mill Creek church of Christ in 1994.

THERE IS A GREAT DAY COMING!

I. Whenever there have been times of prosperity, man has always been forgetful of God.
A . Well did II Peter 3: 3-7 speak of the times of Noah and of today!
B. Matthew 24: 36-44--Jesus said the evil of Noah's time and the evil person of the time of His second coming would be a lot alike. "Watch therefore . . ."
C. People today make light of the very existence of God. They poke fun at the idea of judgment and the concept of sin. Even in some congregations of the Church one has to attend for a long time to hear the word "sin." But God has not gone away . . . and he has not stopped keeping books on man.

II. Great realization: There is no running away from our sin. "Be sure your sin will find you out," says Numbers 32:23. " Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth unto his own flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth unto the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not"--Galatians 6: 7,8. "Rev 20:15 And if any was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire." No one has ever been able to keep a secret or keep a sin away from God. He is an all-seeing, all-knowing, always-present God (Psalms 139:1-15).

III. Jesus is coming again, and his coming will be with no warning!
A. Pearl Harbor had its warnings, although those in power ignored all of the warnings.
B. The Alamo of Texas had its warnings. Its defenders died as heroes, and we appreciate their sacrifice, but one can't help but wonder if that massacre couldn't have somehow been averted.
C. There will be no warning at the second coming of Christ. Matthew 24: 45-51. cf 36. At his coming there will be
1. Murderers with weapons in hand--caught!
2. Adulterers with someone else's spouses in hand--caught!
3. Thieves with someone else's property in hand--caught!
4. The coveteous with evil thoughts in mind--caught!

And they will face a terrible end. Romans 1: 18 - 2:11.

D. There is another set of people "at-risk" for the judgment, and it is those that we should talk about now. They are not the murderers, adulterers, fornicators, thieves, and liars. They are simply those who have not obeyed God. And they are just as guilty and in God's eyes just as lost!

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that disbelieveth shall be condemned. (ASV)

Folks, that is both a command and a promise from God. If God is a faithful and truthful God he will keep all provisions of what He has said. A person who is not a believer in God and in Jesus His son cannot be scripturally baptized. Nowhere in the Bible is anyone referred to as a believer if he was not baptized. The denominational world will do ANYTHING to keep someone from being baptized into Jesus Christ for the remisssion of sins. They are downright perverse about it! They will buy a dozen pumps to pump the water out of Acts 2: 38. They will try to say that II Peter 3: 21 does not exist. As soon as they do that, Acts 22: 16 and Galatians 3:27 spring up. After that comes Matthew 28: 19, 20. Why not DO the obvious?

What if you don't do the obvious? What does the Bible say is waiting for you? II Thessalonians 1: 7-10. How do you obey the Gospel? Again, the Bible explains itself. I Corinthians 15: 1-4. We take part in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. How? Romans 6: 3-11 tells us how.

IV. Time to take stock. If Jesus came again right now, would you be ready?
