Lessons from our hearts to yours.

Anger Management

"In your anger do not sin": Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold (Ephesians 4: 26-27)

James 1: 19, 20--"Ye know this, my beloved brethren. But let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20 for the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. "

A quick-tempered man does foolish things and a crafty man is hated. Proverbs 14:17

A gentle answer turns away wrath but a harsh word stirs up wrath. Proverbs 15:1

When you show your anger people seem to laugh because you are showing what a fool you are.

Psalms 102: 1-11. A prayer of an afflicted man.

A Prayer of the afflicted, when he is overwhelmed and poureth out his complaint before Jehovah. Hear my prayer, O Jehovah, And let my cry come unto thee.
Psa 102:2 Hide not thy face from me in the day of my distress: Incline thine ear unto me; In the day when I call answer me speedily.
Psa 102:3 For my days consume away like smoke, And my bones are burned as a firebrand.
Psa 102:4 My heart is smitten like grass, and withered; For I forget to eat my bread.
Psa 102:5 By reason of the voice of my groaning My bones cleave to my flesh.
Psa 102:6 I am like a pelican of the wilderness; I am become as an owl of the waste places.
Psa 102:7 I watch, and am become like a sparrow That is alone upon the house-top.
Psa 102:8 Mine enemies reproach me all the day; They that are mad against me do curse by me.
Psa 102:9 For I have eaten ashes like bread, And mingled my drink with weeping,
Psa 102:10 Because of thine indignation and thy wrath: For thou hast taken me up, and cast me away.
Psa 102:11 My days are like a shadow that declineth; And I am withered like grass.

Sometimes people get into angry situations because they are not doing what the Bible said to do about conflict situations in Matthew 18: 15-19--" "If your brother sins against you, go and confront him while the two of you are alone. If he listens to you, you have won back your brother.
Mat 18:16 But if he doesn't listen, take one or two others with you so that 'every word may be confirmed by the testimony of two or three witnesses.'
Mat 18:17 If, however, he ignores them, tell it to the congregation. If he also ignores the congregation, regard him as a gentile and a tax collector.
Mat 18:18 "Truly I tell you, whatever you prohibit on earth will have been prohibited in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will have been permitted in heaven.
Mat 18:19 Furthermore, truly I tell you that if two of you agree on earth about anything you request, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.

There are two types of anger: selfish anger and righteous anger.

Selfish anger is bad and happens when you go wrong and let everyone have it. Righteous anger happened when Jesus cleaned out the temple of the Pharisees.

Mark 3: 1-5--"Mar 3:1 Jesus went into the synagogue again, and a man with a paralyzed hand was there.
Mar 3:2 The people watched Jesus closely to see whether he would heal him on the Sabbath, intending to accuse him of doing something wrong.
Mar 3:3 He said to the man with the paralyzed hand, "Come forward."
Mar 3:4 Then he asked them, "Is it lawful to do good or to do evil on the Sabbath, to save a life or to kill it?" But they were silent.
Mar 3:5 Jesus looked around at them with anger, for he was deeply hurt because of their hardness of heart. Then he said to the man, "Hold out your hand." The man held it out, and his hand was restored to health.

This was an instance of righteous anger. Anger isn't wrong. Even Jesus got angry. He saw that the religious leaders cared more about pious obedience than they did about a man who was hurting. Jesus could have lashed out at the leaders. Instead, He demonstrated what love is by healing the man. He set an example for us. We can funnel our anger into righting a wrong or making an important change.

Three reasons to keep your cool:

Ecclesiastes 7: 9--"Anger is the friend of fools."

Now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior and dirty language (Colossians 3: 8).

If you go back into history you can look at all the worst regimes: Hitler, Caesar, Castro, and Stalin. Their government's powers were all based on an anger/blame at a particular group. Ex. Hitler-Jews, Caeser-Christian, Stalin--the Germans.

No one likes to feel upset, afraid or angry. Sometimes we all have feelings like these. Take 25 seconds to look at this clip.

Okay, yes he was upset. But what was your first reaction to watching what he did? Did you laugh?

Don't you think people mostly laugh at us when we lose our tempers? Anger isn't usually a source of incredible power; it's a display of weakness. That's what those scriptures were saying (above).
