Israel's adversaries saw the power of the
Lord in his parting of the Jordan River; they were intimidated. God
told Joshua to circumcise the men of Israel, for "all the people
who were born in the wilderness...had not been circumcised." This
act of circumcision "rolled away the reproach of Egypt" from
God's people. This took place at Gilgal, after which they observed the
passover. The captain of the host of the Lord appeared before Joshua
after the feast.
