Wednesday Night Study Sheet--Joshua 22
Main idea: Unity of the two and one-half tribes east of the Jordan River with the ones west of the river.
Summary: This chapter is a story about a mis-understanding
between the two and a half-tribes on the east side of the Jordan River
and the nine-and half tribes on the West. Reuben, Gad, and Manaeseh
built a monument which the other tribes thought was going to be a rival
altar. It wasn't built at the place where all twelve tribes were supposed
to meet as a united nation to offer sacrifices to God. The tribes on
the west side of the river feared that God would punish all twelve tribes
just because two and half had transgressed His command. All of them
eventually came together on a field which could have been a field of
battle, but which ended up becoming a field of peace, as they talked
it all out together.
