Wednesday Night Study Sheet--Joshua 20
Main idea: Creation of, and the reasons for, six cities of refuge.
Summary: This chapter is illustrative of God's teaching about mercy. All killing is not the same. People who kill
accidently or unintentionally will not have as harsh judgement as those
who kill intentionally. The cities were set up so people who had killed
accidently could briefly move to a refuge city and would not be stoned
immediately. The cities were Kedesh, Bezer, Remoth, Golan, Hebron, and
Shechem. This process gives more time for justice to happen. It gives
more time for trial. A trial is more likely to be just than a riot.
