Wednesday Night Study Sheet--Joshua 18
Main idea: Special situation of the large tribe of Manasseh.
Summary: The eighteenth chapter of Joshua is based on
the inheritance of the tribe of Benjamin. The entire nation of Israel
assembled at Shiloh, and constructed the tabernacle of meeting. Joshua
ordered that surveyors assess the land and bring back a report, at which
time Joshua could "cast lots" for the allotment of the land
to the seven tribes which had received none. The survey was recorded
in a book according to cities, and the lots were cast as foretold. The
remainder of the chapter is a meticulous description of boundaries in
which the tribe of Benjamin would reside, such as "to the side
of Jericho", "through the mountains westward", and "before
Beth Horon southward".
