Wednesday Night Study Sheet--Joshua 14
Main idea: Division of the holy lands among the twelve tribes of Israel.

Summary: This chapter further details the descriptions of the lands taken over by Israel at the time God gave them the Holy Land. Some of the names and landmarks are no longer familiar today, and in fact the people who live there today fight wars over their varying opinions of where the boundaries should be.
How we draw a picture of the Holy Land: On a plain white piece of paper, draw a rather large kidney or kidney bean, tilted slightly toward one-o'clock. The area left of the kidney bean is the Mediterranean Sea. From the top of the kidney bean at 12 o'clock toward the bottom at about 5: 00, draw a straight up-and-down line, then prepare to erase or re-work two parts of it. About a fourth of the way down on the up and down line (Jordan River), make a body of water that looks like a kernel of corn or hominy. Near the bottom of the whole kidney bean, make a finger-shaped body of water, which will be the Dead Sea. To the right of the up and down line (Jordan) are two-and a half tribes, first and northern-most being East Manasseh. Below Manesseh is Gad. Below Gad is Reuben. This takes care of the right half or maybe two-thirds of Israel.
About the bottom one-third of the left side of the kidney bean is Judah. A circular area within Judah is Simeon, so now we draw it in. Above Judah is a little pancreas-shaped land area called Benjamin. to the left are Ephraim and Dan, with Dan being on the coast. With that many prompts given, from here it is mostly a matter of individual preference about how we draw in the remaining tribes.
